The public found its favorite teams. The market only agreed with one of them. π
π° | TODAYβS TOP STORY
Not all public favorites are created equal
Tonight's board is a great reminder that ticket counts alone don't tell the story. Atlanta and Los Angeles are both attracting massive public support, but the market is treating them very differently.
The Braves opened -186 and climbed to -207 while attracting heavy action. Even more interesting, Atlanta's run line has 85% of bets and 97% of money. That's the kind of concentration that suggests bigger bettors aren't just backing a Braves win, they're backing a Braves win by margin.
The Dodgers are the opposite story. Los Angeles has 87% of moneyline bets and 91% of money, yet the line moved from -149 down to -137. Same public enthusiasm. Completely different market response. That's why following percentages without watching the price can get expensive fast.
π | MARKET CHECK-IN
Padres @ Phillies
Opened Phillies -186 β now Phillies -207. Public support piled onto Philadelphia, with 83% of moneyline bets backing the Phillies. The move confirms the market is comfortable charging a premium for the stronger starting-pitching profile.
Giants @ Brewers
Opened Brewers -175 β now Brewers -194. Milwaukee is attracting 86% of moneyline bets, but 55% of money sits on San Francisco. That split creates a conflicting signal and makes the current price much tougher to trust.
Guardians @ Yankees
Opened Yankees -156 β now Yankees -171. The Yankees continue drawing public support, but the more interesting story is the total holding at 8.5 despite 93% of bets landing on the Over. The side moved, the total didn't.
β‘ STEAM INSIGHT
What this tells us: The Phillies and Yankees show what happens when public support and market movement move in the same direction. Brewers-Giants is different because the ticket count and money split aren't aligned. When markets agree with the crowd, prices rise. When markets hesitate, that's usually where the better questions live.

Blue Jays @ Braves
Braves -1.5 (+104 or better)
Atlanta's moneyline has already climbed from -186 to -207, but the more interesting action sits on the run line. The Braves are drawing 85% of run-line bets and 97% of run-line money, suggesting the strongest conviction is on Atlanta winning comfortably, not simply winning. Chris Sale enters with an 8-3 record and 2.01 ERA, while Toronto's starter situation remains uncertain.
WHY THIS WORKS
When a favorite gets expensive, the market often creates value on the alternate way to back the same opinion. Instead of paying a premium on the moneyline, the run line allows you to ride the same directional edge at plus money. The key is that the strongest money appears concentrated on margin, not just outcome.

Dodgers @ Diamondbacks
Dodgers ML (-137)
The Dodgers have the brand name. They have the public support. They have 87% of bets and 91% of money backing them.
Justin Wrobleski is coming off a season-high nine strikeouts. Ryne Nelson gave up four home runs in his last start. On the surface, this looks like a straightforward Dodgers ticket.
But the price went the wrong way.
THE TRAP
Los Angeles opened -149 and now sits around -137 despite overwhelming public support. Markets usually raise the cost of popular favorites. This one got cheaper. When a team attracts nearly all the attention and the sportsbook still moves toward the other side, that's a warning sign worth respecting.
π | WHAT WEβRE WATCHING TODAY
β’ π Golden Knights @ Hurricanes β Carolina has attracted strong public support, but the line has barely moved, so any late jump would be the first meaningful confirmation of that opinion
β’ βΎ Yankees lineup news β Aaron Judge is currently listed probable, and any downgrade before first pitch could change how bettors view a total that has already resisted heavy Over action
β’ βΎ Athletics @ Cubs moneyline β Oakland owns 47% of money but only 24% of bets, and any late move toward the Athletics would strengthen the contrarian case
β’ βΎ Royals @ Twins weather β Thunderstorm chances remain worth monitoring, and any worsening forecast could influence both availability and total movement closer to game time
β’ βΎ Athletics @ Cubs total β Sitting around 10 to 10.5 after opening 9.5, and another climb would show bettors continuing to react to favorable hitting conditions
β’ βΎ Pirates @ Astros total β Over 8.5 has attracted 93% of bets and 92% of money, yet the number remains stuck at the opener, making late movement especially important
That's today's Steam Move. The Braves and Dodgers both attracted the crowd, but only one got the market's approval.
